Syllabus of P4 Advanced Financial Management (APM)
The objective of the syllabus is to apply, as expected by a senior financial executive or advisor, the relevant knowledge, skills, and professional judgment to the adoption or recommendation of decisions relating to the financial management of an organisation in the private and public sectors.
This syllabus builds on the core knowledge and skills of financial management covered in the Financial Management syllabus and prepares candidates to advise management and/or clients on the organization's complex strategic financial management issues. The syllabus begins by exploring a senior executive or advisor's role and responsibility in meeting competing stakeholder needs within the multinational business environment.
The syllabus then re-examines decisions on investment and financing, with a focus on the potential impact of making such decisions in the domestic and international context. In planning strategic acquisitions and mergers and corporate re-organisations, candidates are then expected to develop further advisory skills.
The next part of the syllabus, in the broadest sense, re-examines the existence of business risks and the advanced strategies used to manage such risks. It builds on what candidates in the syllabus of Financial Management would have covered.
